New tramline system in Negros Occidental to benefit 400 farmers

With the use of the new tramline system, hauling time will reduce from 3 hours of manual hauling to 3 minutes.

Negros Occidental (CNN Philippines) — Around 400 farmers will benefit from the new two-way bi-cable tramline system worth P3.39 million inaugurated last week in Salvador Benedicto town, Negros Occidental.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, who led the inauguration rites, says the new project will help in the economic growth of the area.

The tramline system will ease the transport of agricultural products such as rice, banana, ginger, corn, vegetables, squash, and coconut, among others, from remote areas in Salvador Benedicto to the markets.

With the new tramline, Alcala said the income of the town is also expected to rise from P3.5 million annually to P3.5 million a month.

The two-way bi-cable tramline system has a hauling capacity of 350 kilograms per trip, an 80 hp diesel engine and a speed of 100-150 meters per minute.

The tramline system can traverse 625 meters from Barangay Igmayaan proper to Sitio Quenabong in Salvador Benedicto, and 864 meters from Igmayaan proper to Sitio Bedio, Barangay Codcod in San Carlos City.

The tramline is an alternative transport system for farmers in areas isolated from road networks because of ravines, rivers, and dense vegetation.

The hauling time will also reduce from 3 hours of manual hauling to 3 minutes with tramline use.
